CARYN WINTERS
UNFORGETTABLE WORLDS.
Some stories stay with us forever. Mine began on a summer afternoon with sweet tea, sunshine, and a book.
Caryn Winters is my pen name—and the name under which I write romance. I grew up in a small town in the rural South, where my love of romance novels began long before I ever imagined becoming a writer.
Every summer, one of my favorite aunts would visit and spend long afternoons outside with a glass of sweet tea and a Harlequin romance. Watching her disappear completely into those stories made me curious. Before long, I was disappearing into them too.
Some of the first books I fell in love with were historical romances. They transported me to other places and other times, into lives that felt impossibly far from my own. More than twenty years later, that feeling—the moment a fictional world becomes somewhere you genuinely want to stay—still has a great deal to do with why I write.
Today, the stories that interest me most are about people whose lives are already complicated before love arrives. People with careers, families, ambitions, obligations, secrets, mistakes, and carefully constructed plans—and the relationships that force them to reconsider what they thought they wanted.
Sometimes those stories unfold inside law firms and boardrooms. Sometimes there is danger, scandal, or a truth someone would rather keep buried. Some may take place in close-knit neighborhoods, distant countries, or another century entirely. But whatever the setting, I’m drawn to emotionally layered romance, strong chemistry, complicated choices, and the moment when another person stops being simply someone you know and becomes someone who matters.
I’m also interested in creating fictional worlds readers can inhabit for more than a single book: interconnected characters, friendships, families, and places that continue changing long after one couple reaches their happily ever after.
As a law school graduate, I’m fascinated by power, persuasion, human behavior, and the enormous distance that can exist between what people say and what they actually mean. Those interests have a habit of finding their way into my fiction— although fortunately my characters tend to have much more interesting personal lives than most casebooks.
When I’m not writing, I’m usually reading, spending time with family and friends, traveling somewhere new, or happily dog-sitting one of my brother’s miniature poodles.
I’m glad you found your way here. I hope somewhere among these stories, you find a world you want to stay in for a while.
